Greater than, not Equal to... Spaced v McSpaced

Today let's talk about Spaced. A sleeper hit television show on the BBC, showing the lives of two 20-something strangers forced to play boyfriend and girlfriend in order to rent an apartment whose guidelines state "for couples only". Not only was this show good it was the spring board that lead to my two favorite movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz bringing Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Director Edgar Wright together for the first time.

The Show was extremely well written by stars Pegg and Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) who based the characters and their interactions with others, hobbies, obsessions and hates, off themselves and their friends at the time and during college. Put in short as a show about 20-somethings for 20-somethings by 20-somethings. And it worked, connecting with an audience who knew about current trends, and pop culture references. And Edgar Wright would compliment the writing by mirroring the homages visually to the Pop Culture sources it referred to, from Pulp Fiction to Evil Dead, when not displaying his own style of quick pan and fast edits. If this show was made in America (10 years ago) it would have been done justice to have been made by Kevin Smith...

Had it been done 10 years ago.

Instead it was remade in 2008 by McG, not to say McG makes bad movies, I thoroughly enjoyed Terminator: Salvation but he's rode the coattails of others to continue his career instead of creating original work. So a pilot was made but the networks didn't see any potential and it has remained hidden away from the world. That is until I found this via Edgar Wrights Twitter feed. I won't comment about the acting, I actually like Sara Rue as an actor quite a bit, But the US version (dubbed McSpaced)lacks both the energy and the heart of the original... but maybe I'm biased.

So for your comparison here's McSpaced.

now the events of that happen about a minute into this verson

So I've said all that to say this: Go watch Spaced! The original UK show can be seen on Hulu.com watch it and be enjoy and feel blessed that you are privy to such greatness!

P.S. How would Tyres have translated into the US version in 2010?

watch but don't hold the series to the first couple of episodes they are a little awkward... it gets a lot better by the second season once they've come into their own
