Searching for Familiarity

So for a long long time I was really into music... loved it, ate, drank, slept it. Then it stopped. I don't really recall the chain of events that lead to it but I've found I just don't care for anything new anymore. 98% of the bands I listen to are bands I've been listening to for years... and years, and years! What the hell is wrong with me, am I just that much of a snob of tastelessness or what?

Now for most people they listen to punk when they are young then as they grow up they discover new music that makes them happy then they discover something new and mature and become adults and trah-la-lah. This never happened with me. I've listened to punk for years and although I've gotten somewhat bored with what I've listened to for so long, I haven't grown much further than what I've listened to since I was 17. Sure I've bought [or downloaded] new released CD's but it's always been the same old bands.

The sad thing is if I download a new CD it's only because it's new to me, most of the time the record is something old that I've come across. Alternative radio doesn't exactly help either. They are just as guilty of playing the same 100 tracks from the last 20 or so years. They don't exactly branch out either. For instance: Alice in Chains have released a new CD with their new singer, instead of playing the new singles they play the same old tracks from Dirt. The only saving grace for the local station [re]named X103.9 is the Punk show that's run at night, well maybe... if you ignore the fact that "Never mind the Bollocks..." and "Ramones S/T" are both older than I am...

So what do I do? Cave for music I don't like and hope it grows on me? Continue to look around and hope I find a track that I like? I don't know. Well I have had two songs in the last year that I like (one I just can't get enough of) here they are.

and my absolute (current) favorite.

the latter reminds me of the energy of early Voodoo Glow Skulls and just makes me happy!

There's good new music out there. You just have to be willing to hunt for it like you did when you were a kid.

I'm always on the hunt for modern hip-hop, and I found some. I'm going to see this guy in about a week.

Busdriver: Split Seconds

Most of their songs are garbage, but this song is great, and the video is greater

MGMT: Kids

Let's start sharing new music when we find it so we can try and stay relevant as long as possible!!!

OK, there was this one really great band that I liked they were called the New Urban Decay or something like that but I think they broke up or something...

But seriously, it's not very often that I discover new music, or music I like enough to talk about. SB6 is my latest obsession musically, beyond that audiobooks are invading my mp3 player!

The last band I've found that I kind of dig is Anamanaguchi and I think that's because they remind me of 8 bit games and Mindless Self Indulgence (who if you haven't heard check them out, just do it without the kids around, VERY tongue-in-cheek vulgar!)

Um, how screwed up do you think that kid in the MGMT video is going to be.
